During Manchester City’s 3-2 win over Red Star Belgrade, it was obvious what Matheus Nunes will bring to the treble winners. After being out due to injury recently Nunes has begun to settle into life at the European champions.

Given an opportunity to start against Red Star, the Portuguese midfielder put in one of his best displays since arriving at City from Wolverhampton Wanderers. He showed the industry and skill he adds to the European champions. The ability of Nunes to dribble past opponents was on full display against the Serbian SuperLiga champions. He was also good in possession. According to Sofascore, he completed 50/53 passes with one key pass. He also provided the opener for Micah Hamilton with a clever assist.

Since arriving at the European champions on transfer deadline day Matheus Nunes has made 15 appearances and added 3 assists. The majority of his appearances for City have been as a substitute as he finds his feet at the European champions. An injury that he picked up during the last international break has also cost the midfielder time to adapt to his new surroundings.

There is no doubt that Matheus Nunes has the quality to make the grade in Pep Guardiola’s squad. He does appear to possess the necessary attributes to become a Guardiola player. All that the Portuguese international needs is a run of games to solidify his spot amongst the Manchester City squad.

Not all new signings immediately adjust to their new club. Traditionally it takes players a season to adjust to Pep Guardiola’s methods. City’s midfield general Rodri is proof of this and many others. Based on his performance last night it is clear what Nunes will bring to the treble winners when he settles in and gets more opportunities.
