AC Milan knew they needed to win on Atletico Madrid soil in order to keep their Champions League hopes alive, and that is exactly what they managed to do.

Il Corriere della Sera (via MilanNews) this morning praise a ‘great collective performance’ from Milan which had emotion, desire and a moment of quality for the goal from Junior Messias. From playing in the fourth division in Italy to scoring the winner at the Wanda Metropolitano: Messias was the big winner of the night.

Milan are still alive and continue to fight for their lives in Europe, with everything to be decided on 7 December. Stefano Pioli’s men will have to beat Liverpool at San Siro and then hope for the right result from Portugal. Even if they do end up going out, the Rossoneri can hold their heads high that they put in yet another great performance and this time got the win they deserved.

Now, attention turns back to the league. Sassuolo will arrive at San Siro on Sunday afternoon and Milan will need to win at all costs to put the defeat against Fiorentina fully behind them.
