Paris Saint-Germain crowned Ligue 1 champions after season canceled

Paris Saint-Germain have been crowned champions of Ligue 1.
Earlier this week, French Prime Minister Edouard Philippe announced sports would not occur in France until at least September amid the coronavirus pandemic. 

While the Dutch Eredivisie voided its season and stripped Ajax of the opportunity to win the league title, Sky Sports, ESPN and other outlets confirmed PSG will reign as champions of the French top-flight. 

With 11 match days remaining on their schedule, the French giants held a commanding 12-point advantage over Marseille. Both clubs will advance to the group stages of the 2020-21 Champions League competition. Rennes, third in the league, will enter the qualification rounds. Both Lille and Nice qualify for the Europa League group stages.
Toulouse and Amiens have been relegated.

On Tuesday, ESPN's Julien Laurens and Jonathan Johnson reported PSG are willing to play matches abroad to remain in the 2019-20 Champions League tournament as long as sports are prohibited in France.
Today's French football update may open the door for Liverpool to win the Premier League title if the English top-flight announces it's not returning until it's ready to begin its next season. 

Liverpool sits 25 points ahead of second-place Manchester City atop the table.

EPL executives are planning to meet on Friday regarding policies for the end of the 2019-20 campaign. On Wednesday, ESPN's Alex Shaw reported that some Premier League footballers don't want to play at this stage of the virus outbreak.  

One source told ESPN: "A lot of players are very uncomfortable with coming back. The only way the league takes this seriously is when someone at a club dies. We will look back on this time with sadness in the future."

Any matches played in England during the spring or summer months will likely occur without fans in attendance.
