AC Milan have made Thiago Motta their number one target for the head coach role and are planning an attempt to overtake Juventus, a journalist has claimed.

The Motta hypothesis – which has always been in the minds of the management and ownership, as we have stressed multiple times – has very much been revived after the decision to turn away from Julen Lopetegui.

According to Sacha Tavolieri, Motta has been defined as ‘number one choice’ by the Milan management when it comes to who will arrive and take over the reins from Stefano Pioli.

The Rossoneri want a top level coach and they believe that the Italian is the ‘right choice’ to continue the project. Now, there is ‘work ongoing to convince Motta and over Juventus at the finish line’.

Tavolieri goes on to add that the reported targets Paulo Fonseca of Lille and Domenico Tedesco of Belgium are ‘considered to be excluded’, meaning they are no longer firm options.

Motta has been a revelation with Bologna and is basically a perfect fit in terms of knowing the league, having an attractive playing style and the mentality of a player who didn’t retire long ago, plus a record of developing young players.
