Tottenham Hotspur defender Djed Spence has now opened up on his struggles at the North London club.

The 23-year-old is currently on loan at Italian club Genoa after failing to make his mark at Leeds United during the first half of the season. The Championship outfit decided to terminate his loan deal in January and send him back to his parent club.

Tottenham have a number of right-back options at their disposal and they have decided to send Spence out on loan once again so that he can play regularly. The defender seems to be enjoying his time at the Italian club and he has now revealed in an interview that he is confused about the reason why the move to Tottenham has not worked out yet.

Spence believes that it is difficult for him to show his qualities on the pitch if he does not get opportunities but he feels that the move to Tottenham has been learning curve for him even though it has not been a positive one.

He said to Gazzetta dello Sport (h/t Sport Witness): “This is football. I couldn’t explain the reasons. What is certain is that when you don’t play, it’s difficult to demonstrate your value.

“There is no point in asking too many questions. But I believe that even in difficulties, there is always something to learn. Whoever the manager is, he makes you richer inside.”

The 23-year-old full-back was highly rated in England prior to his move to Tottenham, and it will be interesting to see if he can get his career back on track with regular football at the Italian club. If he manages to impress at Genoa, he might be able to secure a respectable move away from Tottenham at the end of the season.
