Tiago Pinto ends his experience at Roma and salutes the supporters, thanking them for their ‘passion,’ insisting he ‘leaves a better Roma than the one I found on my arrival.’

The director of sport had been under contract until June 30, but announced his decision to walk away as soon as the winter transfer window had come to a close.

He was very busy in these final weeks, bringing in Tommaso Baldanzi from Empoli and left-back Angelino.

“I wish you all the best,” wrote Tiago Pinto on Instagram.

“I can never thank you enough for this extraordinary experience we had together, during which I worked my hardest to take you where you belong, at the top, in a position that could be up to the level of your greatness as a club and a city.

“I will always hold with me your support, your passion and your Romanista hearts, which conquered me at the Stadio Olimpico and in every moment we crossed paths in one of your magnificent streets.

“I always believed in the project that we built and today I believe that I leave a better Roma than the one I found on my arrival.

“We had glorious moments together, we overcame difficult days, and now my time here is at an end, I can only express my gratitude towards all those who supported me from the start.

“To all the fans and Romanisti friends, to all those who continue to wear this marvellous jersey with pride, to all the staff and dependents of the club, to the players, to DDR… the future is yours!”

DDR is coach Daniele De Rossi, who took over last month when the club surprisingly sacked Jose Mourinho.

As for Tiago Pinto, the 39-year-old former Benfica director took the helm in January 2021 and leaves three years later, having helped Roma win the Europa Conference League and reach the Europa League Final.

The Friedkin family, who own the club, are now searching for a replacement to run their transfer strategy.
