Tottenham are in the market to sign a right-back for next season

Tottenham Hotspur have not endured a good season by any means. The Lilywhites sit in the bottom half of the Premier League table and are on course to record their lowest ever league position in this century. But the Spurs fans can find solace in how the team has performed in Europe. Ange Postecoglou’s men have exceeded all expectations and reached the Europa League semi-finals, where they take on Bodo/Glimt.

The North London club has been dealt a tough hand in terms of injuries. Spurs have had to deal with several injuries to key players during the most crunch time of the season, forcing Ange Postecoglou to use youngsters to fill the void. This has also affected the results of the team and the performances have significantly dropped. Tottenham have registered 17 losses in the Premier League and it has certainly not helped Ange’s cause.

Along with the injuries, the ex-Celtic boss has also dealt with the lack of form shown by some players. Club captain Heung-Min Son, ever-reliable full-back Pedro Porro and star striker Dominic Solanke have all struggled to get going on a consistent basis. This has led Big Ange to make some bold calls and eventually drop the players from the starting eleven at some point.

Tottenham looking to sign full-back Dodo

Everyone knows Tottenham defender Pedro Porro is not the first-choice full-back anymore. The Spain international has struggled to perform consistently and has made a lot of defensive mistakes in recent months. This has led Ange Postecoglou to replace the ex-Sporting Lisbon player with Djed Spence. Unfortunately for Porro, the Englishman has grabbed the opportunity with both hands and performed brilliantly.

Now, it is reported that Spurs are in the market to sign another right-back in the summer. As per AS, the Lilywhites are interested in Fiorentina star Dodo and want to bring the Brazilian to N17. Tottenham have been long-term admirers of the 26-year-old and feel that he would fit in perfectly at North London.

However, Spurs are not the only club that are looking to sign the Fiorentina defender as Barcelona are also interested. The only thing that makes Tottenham the favourites is the asking price for Dodo. Fiorentina have set an asking price of £21m for the right-back. It is also reported that the Italian club want to extend his contract, but a breakthrough in negotiations looks tough.

Will Dodo fit in at Tottenham?

Dodo has been one of the standout players for Fiorentina this season. The Brazilian defender is one of the first names on the team sheet and has managed to become a key part of Raffaele Palladino’s squad. It is clear to see that the full-back is making waves in Europe through his performances and is helping Fiorentina push for European football next season.

As per Sofascore, Dodo has featured in 41 games in all competitions this season. The right-back has provided four assists and created 11 big chances for his teammates. The Fiorentina star has an 81.9% passing accuracy and has also managed to keep nine clean sheets in the Serie A this season.

Dodo will fit in perfectly at Tottenham. The right-back can progress the ball up the pitch into the final third with ease and can also create chances for his teammates from the byline. The Spurs fans will wonder that even Pedro Porro does the same things, so why are the Lilywhites willing to sign the 26-year-old?

The answer is simple. The Fiorentina star is defensively better. He tends to read the game well and has the ability to win grounded, as well as, aerial duels. Dodo also tends to rank well in terms of intercepting the play and starting an attack.
