The 2024 edition of the Australian Open is all set to kick off on 14 January. Quite a few exciting matches are lined up for the opening day.

Ten-time champion Novak Djokovic, women’s singles defending champion Aryna Sabalenka, and Italian tennis ace Jannik Sinner will be in action on the first day of the 2024 Australian Open.

Matches to watch on Day 1

There are quite a few matches lined up for Day 1 at the 2024 Australian Open. As many as 32 matches will be played on the first day with the likes of Novak Djokovic and Jannik Sinner in action.

Novak Djokovic vs Dino Prizmic

Top seed and World No.1 Novak Djokovic will begin his title defense against Qualifier Dino Prizmic. The Serbian will take on the Croatian youngster at the Rod Laver Arena on Sunday. It will be the first time that Prizmic will be up against Djokovic and quite obviously, it will be a herculean task for the Croatian. Meanwhile, Djokovic will look to kick off his campaign with an emphatic win.

Aryna Sabalenka vs Ella Seidel

After Djokovic’s match against Prizmic, Aryna Sabalenka, the defending champion in the women’s singles category will take on Ella Seidel in her first match at the 2024 Australian Open. The Belarusian has started the 2024 season on a good note as Sabalenka reached the final at Brisbane International. The 25-year-old is expected to ease past her opponent at the Rod Laver Arena late on Sunday.

Jannik Sinner vs Botic van de Zandschulp

Italian tennis ace Jannik Sinner will open his campaign against the Netherlands’ Botic van de Zandschulp at the Rod Laver Arena. The 22-year-old Italian ended his 2023 season on a high as Sinner won the Davis Cup for his team. The youngster had a great run in 2023 where he won a handful of titles. Now, although Sinner is starting his 2024 season with the Australian Open, he is expected to do well.

Andrey Rublev vs Thiago Seyboth Wild

Russian tennis star Andrey Rublev will open his campaign against Brazillian Thiago Seyboth Wild at the Margaret Court Arena on Sunday. Rublev had a decent 2023 season wherein he won two titles and also played in the ATP Finals. The Russian has started the 2024 season with a bang as Rublev won the Hong Kong Open. Now, he is expected to ease past his opponent in the first round.
