WNBA planning 22-game regular season in Florida

While the NBA is prepared to resume play at the end of July, the WNBA is reportedly looking to play a 22-game regular season at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla. next month as well, according to ESPN's Mechelle Voepel.

The normal 36-game regular season was set to begin on May 15, but was delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

According to Voepel, the new plan is "tentative" and players have not yet agreed to the proposal as they're still learning the details. It's unclear as to what coronavirus-related safety protocols will be in place, and there was no word on what the postseason would be like.

Under the proposed plan, the regular season would begin on July 24 with the playoffs ending at some point in October.

IMG Academy has four courts that can be used among the 12 WNBA teams. The world-renowned boarding school has hosted many professional athletes for workouts in the past, including Serena Williams, Cam Newton and Russell Wilson, so they'd have no problem hosting the WNBA.

There's no word on whether or not players will be given the opportunity to opt-out of the season due to coronavirus concerns.

The National Women's Soccer League will be the first women's league in the United States to return to action with a 25-game "Challenge Cup" tournament in Utah beginning in June.
