Shingo Takagi names some AEW stars he would like to share the ring with.

AEW and NJPW have built a strong working relationship in recent years. Through this collaboration, fans have seen a number of interpromotional matches between the companies.

Speaking with Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated, NEVER Openweight Champion Shingo Takagi was asked about a potential excursion where he would wrestle for AEW for a few months.

“There are quite a few Japanese wrestlers doing their thing in AEW, aren’t there?” Takagi said through a translator. “I’d like to see Bryan Danielson again. Seeing him in the ring would be fine. I just missed Claudio Castagnoli and Samoa Joe when they were in ROH, so I’d like to mix it up with them sometime.”

Shingo Takagi Aims To Elevate NEVER Openweight Title

In the same interview, Takagi made it clear that he wants to elevate his title. He also expressed his hope that he will be able to open the borders of different companies.

“Elevating the value of the belt means elevating the value of myself,” said Takagi. “I think I need to put more effort into wrestling and show how great I am as a wrestler. I like to think I have a lot of range as a wrestler, and I hope not just to be an openweight champion, but to open those borders of different companies, too.

“The IWGP world heavyweight champion might be the world’s number one, but there’s only one Shingo Takagi, and only one NEVER Openweight title.”

At NJPW Lonestar Shootout on November 10, Takagi will defend his title against Trent Beretta. WrestleZone will have coverage of the show as it airs.
