An Alabama quarterback got meaningful reps in a game for a third time this season.
Ty Simpson, a redshirt freshman, helped rally the Crimson Tide to a 17-3 victory over South Florida in week three.
He got an opportunity to work with the first team in the second half versus Kentucky, and he made plays Saturday at Bryant-Denny Stadium against Chattanooga. The former five-star completed four of six passes for 50 yards, including a 31-yard completion to wide receiver Kendrick Law that nearly scored a touchdown. Simpson’s most significant play of the game came from his athleticism. He took off for a 78-yard run that could have given him a touchdown and a record for the longest touchdown run by an Alabama quarterback in a single game, but he dropped the ball before crossing into the end zone. The ball rolled out-of-bounds inside the 1-yard line. Richard Young, a true freshman, finished the drive with a rushing touchdown, but it was a learning experience for Simpson. Nick Saban was not happy on the sideline after the play, but Jalen Milroe gave a leadership response.

Milroe celebrated with Simpson when he came in versus USF to lead the Tide to victory.
He hilariously gave reporters the right response as to how he would handle the situation with Simpson.
“Forget about all that, did y’all see how fast he was moving,” Milroe said. “He was moving.”
Milroe was just happy to see Simpson play and make plays. The leadership from Milroe has allowed this team to develop into a potential championship group. Simpson gained important reps that will help him as the Tide may need him later in the season.
Alabama now prepares to face Auburn next week.
