Ohio State QB C.J. Stroud on track to play vs. Akron despite shoulder injury

Some assumed that Ohio State Buckeyes starting quarterback C.J. Stroud would sit out this coming Saturday's home game against the Akron Zips because of the injury to his throwing shoulder.

According to Adam Rittenberg of ESPN, though, Ohio State coach Ryan Day told reporters Tuesday that Stroud will practice this week and start versus Akron barring any setback. Signal-callers Kyle McCord and Jack Miller III could also see action against the Zips.

Stroud, a redshirt freshman, completed 15-of-25 passes for 185 yards with a touchdown, an interception and a lost fumble in this past Saturday's 41-20 win over the Tulsa Golden Hurricane. The Buckeyes enter the Big Ten portion of the schedule at the Rutgers Scarlet Knights on Oct. 2.

"When you get more reps under your belt, you feel more comfortable and then you rep it better in practice and all those things add up, all things that we're working through with a young quarterback," Day explained. "I think that there's a lot of great football ahead for C.J. Stroud. When you look at kind of the situation he's been put into, and some of the throws he's made, you can see he can do it. Now we just got to keep growing on it."

Ohio State improved to 2-1 on the season via the victory over Tulsa.
