The Los Angeles Angels have been mired in a recent funk. After starting the season 9-5, the Halos have lost seven of their last ten games to drop to 12-12. This skid has dropped them to fourth place in the American League West division.

The main problem for Los Angeles has been pitching. As a unit, Angels pitchers currently rank 24th in the Majors in terms of ERA with a 4.44 clip. Additionally, their WHIP (1.42), home runs allowed (32) and walks (94) all rank bottom 10. The Angels will need to do some roster shuffling in order to salvage a struggling pitching staff.

Following their series opener against the Pittsburgh Pirates, the Angels announced multiple roster moves, including one on right-handed pitcher Ian Anderson. Per the team, he has been designated for assignment.

Anderson was acquired by the Angels from the Atlanta Braves for pitcher Jose Suarez before opening day. Ironically, Atlanta also DFA’d their addition from the trade this past week.

The 26-year-old has accumulated 281.2 innings in the big leagues. In that time, he has garnered a 4.22 ERA and 1.370 WHIP.

In seven games this season for Los Angeles, Anderson struggled mightily. The right-hander tossed 9.1 innings as a Halo and surrendered 12 earned runs for an 11.57 ERA. His 2.571 WHIP this season is nearly double his career mark.

After a career season in 2021 in which he generated 2.8 bWAR, Anderson has struggled to stay healthy. He missed all of the 2023 and 2024 seasons, and his comeback attempt with Los Angeles was short-lived.
