Chiefs HC Andy Reid responds to WR's fake injury claim

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Kadarius Toney is again causing headaches for his head coach, Andy Reid.

The former AP Coach of the Year spent time Monday addressing Toney's recent claim that the team has been lying about a phantom hip injury.

The former first-round pick was a limited participant in practice last week but was ruled out for the Chiefs' AFC Championship Game against the Baltimore Ravens. Toney was listed as out on Saturday due to both the apparent hip issue and the birth of his first child (ironically also Toney's birthday).

Sunday was the Florida product's sixth straight missed game because of either a hip or ankle injury. Toney's last action was in Week 15 against the New England Patriots when he deflected a pass to a defender for an interception for the second time in the campaign.

Reid added Monday that the 25-year-old is "working through some things" and he'll be with the team when they resume practice on Thursday ahead of Super Bowl LVIII.

Toney's drama-filled one-plus season with the New York Giants in 2021 and 2022 has been followed up by, perhaps an even more difficult stay with the Chiefs thus far.

This season alone, he's spent more time trash-talking the Giants and has possibly cost Kansas City multiple games.

In the team's Week 1 upset loss against the Detroit Lions, he had just one catch for one yard on five targets (with three drops). In the Chiefs' Week 14 defeat vs. the Buffalo Bills, Toney's much-discussed offsides penalty wiped out what would've been a go-ahead touchdown in the fourth quarter.

Toney finished the regular season with 27 catches for 169 receiving yards and one touchdown on 38 targets while adding 11 rushing attempts for 31 yards across 13 games.
