Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid admitted to reporters Monday that wide receiver Kadarius Toney did indeed line up offsides prior to the team's would-be go-ahead touchdown in the fourth quarter against the Buffalo Bills on Sunday.
Chiefs HC Andy Reid on WR Kadarius Toney: “Normally he looks over to the sideline and just gets an OK, on that one he just happened not to.” @Fox4kc @fox4sports #ChiefsKingdom

Reid mentioned Toney didn’t check with the official on the particular play. Added he’s two inches or an inch away from being legal. Look at Toney’s right foot .. look at the ball. pic.twitter.com/VtJIrPZ0ps

Both Reid and quarterback Patrick Mahomes blasted officials postgame, with the former saying: "It's a bit embarrassing for the National Football League for that to take place."
The one noticeable difference between the 65-year-old's comments on Sunday vs. his words on Monday is that he's now saying that Toney was offsides, albeit by an inch or two.
Given the history of back-and-forth dramas between Mahomes and Bills quarterback Josh Allen in the past, it's no certainty that the Chiefs would've won even if Sunday's lateral touchdown had counted. Fans of both teams won't soon forget how the AFC divisional playoff tilt ended in January 2022, when both teams were able to score in the final 17 seconds of regulation and Mahomes found tight end Travis Kelce for the game-winner in overtime.
There's no question that if the referee missed Toney's offsides, let it slide or if the third-year pro had simply checked with the official, that Kansas City would've been in great position to move to 9-4. Instead, the Chiefs have now lost two in a row and are just 8-5 with a one-game lead over the Denver Broncos in the AFC West.
