Chiefs WR can't quit trash-talking his former team

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Kadarius Toney and the entire New York Giants team were two of the biggest losers in Week 1 of the 2023 NFL season.

After a brutal performance in the Chiefs' season-opening loss last week, Toney went silent on social media and even deleted his X (formerly known as Twitter) account.

Once the Giants (his former team) ended a 40-0 blowout defeat at the hands of the Dallas Cowboys on "Sunday Night Football," the wideout immediately took to Instagram to ramp up his long-standing trash talk against New York and its fans.

It appears that Toney either has a short-term memory and forgot how epically poor his performance was Thursday or he simply can't pass up an opportunity to bash the Giants. On one hand, it's good if Toney is able to put his Week 1 stinker of one catch for one yard on five targets (with three drops) behind him, but seeing his ongoing trash talk of his former employer comes off as immature and won't impress his Kansas City coaches and teammates.

The 24-year-old was riding high seven months ago after helping the Chiefs win Super Bowl LVII with a five-yard, go-ahead touchdown reception in the fourth quarter, but he is off to a rough start this season. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes and head coach Andy Reid have been defending champions before and have moved on, knowing they can ill-afford to fall behind in a stacked AFC.

With All-Pro tight end Travis Kelce still recovering from his knee injury and wideouts like Juju Smith-Schuster and Mecole Hardman departing in the offseason, Toney is expected to be one of Mahomes' top targets this year. Instead, thus far, the former first-round pick has made headlines in less than one week for his drops and never-ending trash talk against the Giants.
