Chiefs' Patrick Mahomes to participate in OTAs coming off toe surgery

Fans of the Kansas City Chiefs can breathe sighs of relief heading into their weekends.

NFL Media's James Palmer reports Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is ahead of schedule in his recovery from the surgery he underwent following the Super Bowl to repair a toe injury and intends to participate in organized team activities that begin Tuesday.

The one-time regular-season and Super Bowl Most Valuable Player will "do some stuff" next week en route to being 100% for training camp sessions.

Mahomes aggravated an injury to the big toe of his left foot during a home postseason victory over the Cleveland Browns in January. Ironically, Kansas City opens the 2021 campaign hosting those same Browns on Sept. 12.

Mahomes recently made headlines by suggesting the NFL should utilize microchip technology to improve in-game officiating. "I've always thought the chip in the ball has to happen sometime, where if you cross the line, it just tells you a touchdown," Mahomes said on an edition of the WHOOP podcast. "The biggest thing to me is when they get in the pile by the end zone, there is literally no way to tell if he's in the end zone or not. It's like you said, it's just whatever they call. … I'm sure it'll happen soon enough."
