Could Bengals QB Joe Burrow be out the entire preseason?

The Cincinnati Bengals haven't been shedding much light on when Joe Burrow will return to football activities after having his appendix removed. But according to the Heisman Trophy-winner's father, he could be sidelined longer than many previously thought.

In an appearance on the "In The Trenches" podcast with Bengals radio analyst Dave Lapham, Jimmy Burrow said it could still be "a few weeks" before his son can play football again.

"It set him back," Burrow said of his son's surgery. "But he seems to be getting better every day, and hopefully, here in a few weeks we'll be back out on the field."

Burrow had an appendectomy back on July 27 and was expected to miss anywhere from one to four weeks. Given the elder Burrow's comments and how tight-lipped the team has been about when he will return, it's looking more likely that Burrow will miss a month.

Of course, the length of Burrow's absence casts questions on whether he will get a preseason game in before the 2022 campaign kicks off on Sept. 11. The Bengals' final preseason tuneup is slated for Aug. 27 -- one month after the surgery -- and is a rematch of last year's Super Bowl against the Los Angeles Rams.

Whether or not he is able to take any preseason snaps, Burrow has been a visible figure at Bengals training camp even though he can't participate yet. The starting quarterback has been a hit on social media since footage emerged of him driving around the practice field in a golf cart.
