Bengals QB Joe Burrow returns to team facility after appendectomy

Fans of the Cincinnati Bengals were understandably concerned when they learned last week that star quarterback Joe Burrow would be temporarily sidelined after he required surgery to remove his appendix. Bengals head coach Zac Taylor initially elected against offering a timeline for when Burrow would be back under center, but there is now a positive update regarding the 25-year-old's status on the first day of August.

Per Myles Simmons of Pro Football Talk, Burrow returned to the team's facility on Monday.

Taylor later spoke with reporters but again did not offer any timetable for when Burrow could resume practicing.

"It’s good to have him around and we’ll just take it day-to-day with him," Taylor said of Burrow. Taylor also added it is "his call to get out there" as it pertains to Burrow being on the field so quickly after the procedure.

"So, he feels up to it so we’ll let him get out here and spend as much time as he needs to," Taylor continued during his comments.

It wasn't clear last week if Taylor intends to have Burrow play in any August exhibition games or if the appendectomy impacted those plans at all. Backups Brandon Allen and Jake Browning have shifted up the depth chart in Burrow's absence and may remain in their current spots when Cincinnati opens the preseason portion of the calendar versus the Arizona Cardinals on Aug. 12.
