Eagles HC responds to claims about offense

Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni responded Tuesday to recent claims by anonymous Philadelphia players reportedly calling the team's offense "too predictable."

He was also asked about the likelihood of taking over play-calling duties from offensive coordinator Brian Johnson.

The Eagles defense (particularly their pass defense) has received most of the criticism this year, as they've allowed over 30 points five times during the 2023 campaign. They've surrendered at least 33 points in three straight games and have been outscored 65-32 during their two-game losing streak.

Philadelphia ranks 28th in both points allowed (24.7) and passing yards allowed per game (259.9).

The offense has shown glimpses of last year's unit that finished third in points per contest (28.1), scoring at least 28 in six games, but has also scored less than 20 points three times, including the last two games.

Regardless of the numbers, Sirianni sounds committed to running the offense (at least the passing game) through three players.

A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith and Dallas Goedert rank first, second and third on the team, respectively, in targets, receptions and receiving yards this season. This, even as the tight end recently missed three games due to a broken right forearm.

Of quarterback Jalen Hurts' 19 touchdown passes this fall, 15 have gone to the trio. Brown leads with seven touchdown receptions, Smith has six and Goedert is tied for third with two.

This is nothing new for Sirianni's passing offense, as Brown, Smith and Goedert were the top pass-catchers for Hurts in 2022 (Brown's first year with the team) as well.

Last season ended with an appearance in Super Bowl LVII against the Kansas City Chiefs, so perhaps it's a bit premature to worry about the Eagles offense.
