Eagles' Jason Kelce responds to Jalen Hurts' criticisms

Philadelphia Eagles All-Pro center Jason Kelce had no problem with quarterback Jalen Hurts saying the club isn't "committed enough" shortly after Monday's 20-17 loss at the Seattle Seahawks.

"That’s the attitude you have to have," Kelce said during the latest edition of the "New Heights" podcast released on Wednesday, according to Matt Ehalt of the New York Post. "I think when you’re not performing as a team, when you’re not winning games, the only thing you can do is go back and work that much more, go back and commit yourself that much harder. We have great people in the building, we have people that want to win, I know that. There is no question in my mind about that."

The Eagles entered the season as the reigning conference champions and jumped out to a 10-1 record but have since dropped three straight games to fall beneath the 10-4 Dallas Cowboys in the NFC East standings via tiebreaker advantage.

Per ESPN stats, the Eagles are responsible for one of the league's worst turnover differentials (minus-6), and Tom Ignudo of CBS News Philadelphia noted Wednesday that the Eagles rank last in the NFL as it pertains to allowing opponents to convert on third down (47.69%).

Philadelphia next hosts the 5-9 New York Giants on Christmas Day for what appears, on paper, to be a "get-right game" for the Eagles. Kelce seemed to challenge his teammates ahead of the matchup versus the Giants.

"For me, the commitment comment, that’s all you can do is re-commit yourself even more than you were," Kelce added during the podcast. "At the end of the day, all you can do is go back and work, go back and focus on the fundamentals and focus on where you’re making mistakes as an individual, focus on how you can help your teammate, assist your teammate, be where you need to be, bring energy."

As of Wednesday afternoon, oddschecker listed the Eagles second among the betting favorites at +450 odds to represent the NFC in Super Bowl LVIII. Sportsbooks clearly believe Philadelphia can right the ship, but Hurts' comments suggest the Eagles are dealing with more than just a poor run of form before Christmas.
