Jets' Garrett Wilson recruits Packers' Aaron Rodgers

Wide receiver Garrett Wilson didn't dance around the issue when he was asked if he'd like his New York Jets to land Green Bay Packers star Aaron Rodgers this offseason.

"I’d probably have tears of joy come down," Wilson said about a potential trade for Rodgers during an appearance on the CBS Sports Radio "Maggie and Perloff" program, as shared by Lou DiPietro of Audacy. "That’s one of the greatest of all time and for him to even know my name or say he wanted to throw me the ball, I’d probably cry. That’s a G.O.A.T."

Wilson famously blasted the Jets offense this past November as signal-caller Zach Wilson played poorly and allegedly lost some members of the locker room due to his attitude.

Meanwhile, "Gang Green" was repeatedly linked in stories and rumors with Rodgers last month even before the club hired Nathaniel Hackett, the quarterback's former offensive coordinator with the Packers, to be its new OC.

The Jets may face some stiff competition for Rodgers in the Las Vegas Raiders, who are looking to reunite the four-time NFL Most Valuable Player with All-Pro wide receiver Davante Adams.

Garrett Wilson made it clear he believes the Jets should be Rodgers' preferred destination of the two options.

"I’d tell him about the influx of young talent," Wilson said about a possible recruitment pitch. "We have a better team than the Raiders – I don’t know who’s listening, but we have a better team than them. Go look at the rosters and how we played last year, and look at the analytics – you’ll see that we had every piece. So, you come in and we’re going to have a chance to do something special."

The Jets finished the 2022 season at 7-10, while the Raiders went 6-11.

Rodgers announced earlier this week he's embarking on a four-day "darkness retreat" before he makes any decision about his playing future.

The 39-year-old presumably could choose to stay with the only NFL employer he's had during his career, he could follow Tom Brady into retirement, or he could tell Green Bay he wants to relocate and play home games at MetLife Stadium next fall.
