King of Props: Flight from Logan
For proof that drafting and developing quarterbacks is an inexact science, look no further than today’s matchup in Landover, Maryland. The Vikings’ Kirk Cousins returns to the field where he played home games for six seasons and faces the team that famously picked him in the fourth round after taking Robert Griffin III second overall. Now leading Washington is Taylor Heinicke, who signed with Minnesota as an undrafted free agent but never took a snap. In keeping with that theme, our top prop is on someone who was drafted as a quarterback:
The bet: Over 22½ receiving yards for Commanders tight end Logan Thomas
Because he had missed the three previous games with a calf injury, Thomas was eased back into action last week. He played on a season-low 56% of the offensive snaps and didn’t have a catch.
But since becoming the primary tight end in 2020, the former Virginia Tech QB has been an integral part of the Washington offense. In the five full games that he and Heinicke have played as starters, Thomas has averaged 48 receiving yards, with a low of 31 and a high of 74.
Meanwhile, the Vikings are struggling to cover tight ends this season. All but one of the opposing starters at the position surpassed this number, led by the Eagles’ Dallas Goedert (82 yards) and the Dolphins’ Mike Gesicki (67).
No longer carrying a “questionable” designation, Thomas has been cleared for takeoff.
