With the final preseason game out the way, the start of the regular season is right around the corner. Although a lot of starters did not play in the preseason, it was a good opportunity to evaluate the depth of the Los Angeles Chargers roster.

Offense

Josh Palmer looks like he can make an impact as a WR3 going in to 2022. In limited action in the preseason, he had 3 receptions for 75 yards and a touchdown. Now entering his 2nd NFL season, look for him to further develop chemistry with Chargers QB Justin Herbert in a high powered offense.

Zion Johnson, the 17th overall pick of the 2022 NFL Draft, started all 3 games at right guard. So far he looks as advertised with not much cause for concern. He should fit in well with the solid O-Line starters Corey Linsley, Matt Feiler, and Rashawn Slater.

Defense

Chris Rumph II made his presence felt in the first preseason game against the Rams. He made an impressive tackle for loss along with a huge sack on a third down play that forced a punt. Rumph is an up and coming player that we should hear more of when the regular season starts.

Chargers defensive back Ja’Sir Taylor got some good preseason experience for his rookie year. The 6th round draft pick from Wake Forest is entering a DB room with the likes of Derwin James, JC Jackson, and Asante Samuel Jr. just to name a few. He stated in the last preseason game against the Saints. Taylor got the opportunity to face New Orleans first team offense which included Jameis Winston, Alvin Kamara, Jarvis Landry, and Mark Ingram II.

Outlook of Final Roster

Los Angeles Chargers head coach Brandon Staley provided his thoughts on training camp and this preseason via Chargers.com. “I like the way that we came together as a football team. I think that our team has improved from the first day of practice until now. I think that we got full evaluations, which is what we were after in these three preseason games. Now, we’re ready to get on with it.” He further noted, “It’s a long season. But I like this football team. I think that we’re a lot better football team than we were at the beginning of training camp. Now, we’re ready for what’s next.” The Los Chargers will host the Las Vegas Raiders Week 1 and look to start the season on the right note.
