Veteran Ravens DB Anthony Levine announces retirement

A member of the Baltimore Ravens secondary for the last 10 years will be transitioning from the field to the sidelines next season.

Given the nickname "Co-Cap" due to his status as captain of the Baltimore special teams unit, Levine signed with the Green Bay Packers as an undrafted free agent in 2010, but never got called up from their practice squad in two seasons. The defensive back signed with the Ravens practice squad in September 2012 and played in his first NFL game in November of that year, but was limited to two games that season due to injury.

Still, Levine earned a Super Bowl ring in early 2013 after the team took down the San Francisco 49ers for the title.

"Tough, smart, persistent and dependable, Anthony represents the very best of what it means to be a Raven," head coach John Harbaugh said, per BaltimoreRavens.com staff writer Ryan Mink. "A relentless competitor and man of high character, Anthony poured every part of himself into the team."

Levine was remarkably durable from then on, appearing in all 16 regular season games from 2013 to 2019, 15 contests in 2020 and all 17 in 2021. In 2014, he made a career-high three starts, while matching his career-best mark in tackles with 29.

2017 and 2018 were arguably the Tennessee product's best campaigns, as he had 29 tackles and a career-high 3.0 sacks in 2017, posted 28 tackles and a career-best eight passes defended the next season, and recorded his only two career interceptions in each of those years. Levine made 12 tackles in his final year in the league.
