Why 'Madden' Super Bowl LVII prediction could be good news for Chiefs

A video-game simulation may have given a Monday boost to those cheering for and betting on the Kansas City Chiefs to defeat the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LVII.

As mentioned by Michael Rothstein of ESPN, the official "Madden NFL 23" simulation shared at the start of the week has predicted that the Eagles will beat the Chiefs 31-17 to win the Super Bowl this coming Sunday.

In the exercise, Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts completed 26-of-33 passes for 282 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions. Hurts also added 88 rushing yards and an additional score on the ground to earn Most Valuable Player honors. He was only sacked twice by Chiefs defensive tackle Chris Jones during the winning effort.

Kansas City signal-caller Patrick Mahomes, who already has one real Super Bowl MVP Award in his trophy case, completed 29-of-39 passes for 249 yards with a touchdown and an interception in the pretend loss. Star tight end Travis Kelce, who could make history by competing for actual MVP honors at State Farm Stadium, finished with six catches for 65 yards and a score.

Odds are the Eagles would be just fine with Kelce having that type of night this Sunday.

Rothstein explained that Monday's development could make Eagles fans a bit nervous ahead of the big game. The 'Madden' simulation incorrectly picked the Cincinnati Bengals to beat the Los Angeles Rams last February and also missed when it forecasted that the Chiefs would defeat Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Super Bowl LV. While 'Madden' accurately called Kansas City beating the San Francisco 49ers to win Super Bowl LIV, it went 0-2 for the previous two Super Bowl encounters.

For those interested in such things, 'Madden' wasn't the only video game recently used to predict what might occur during Super Bowl LVII. If nothing else, the Chiefs may have found some digital bulletin-board material for the week:
