Bruce Cassidy: Tuukka Rask would like to return to Bruins
Tuukka Rask is not with the Boston Bruins to open training camp as he remains unsigned following surgery to repair a torn labrum in his hip.
However, Bruins head coach Bruce Cassidy confirmed Thursday that the veteran netminder told him he'd like to return to Boston this season, according to 98.5 The Sports Hub's Ty Anderson.
Rask said during an appearance on WEEI's "The Greg Hill Show" last month that he expects to return to the ice in December or January. Although he hasn't had contract discussions with the Bruins, he added that "the money won't be an issue" because he wants to remain in Boston.
The 34-year-old reiterated earlier this summer that he has no plans to play anywhere else after saying earlier in the year that he intends to finish his NHL career with the Bruins.
Rask played through the 2021 Stanley Cup Playoffs with the hip injury and led the Bruins into the second round, where they were defeated by the New York Islanders in six games. He finished the 2020-21 regular season with a 15-5-2 record, two shutouts, a 2.28 goals-against average and .913 save percentage.
With Rask sidelined entering the 2021-22 season, the Bruins signed former Buffalo Sabres goaltender Linus Ullmark to a four-year, $20 million deal. He's expected to share time in the crease with Jeremy Swayman, who has appeared in just 10 NHL games.
