Orlando City-Inter Miami scheduled for opening day of MLS tournament

On Wednesday, Major League Soccer and Walt Disney World announced that the league's return-to-play tournament featuring all 26 clubs will commence on July 8 at Orlando's ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.

The competition's opening day will see a pair of Florida clubs face each other for the first time.

Iliana Limón Romero of the Orlando Sentinel has confirmed that expansion side Inter Miami CF will play against Orlando City among the July 8 tournament fixtures. Kickoff time and the television broadcaster of the match aren't known.

The tournament's opening round is a group stage and is followed by a knockout round. A 2021 CONCACAF Champions League spot will be awarded to the competition's winner.

MLS suspended play after two matchdays in March because of the uncontrolled virus outbreak. Inter Miami lost to DC United and LAFC in their first two official matches.

The tournament's full draw is set for 3:30 pm ET Thursday afternoon.
