James Cameron ready to adapt Joe Abercrombie's best-selling novel 'The Devils'

James Cameron does what he wants, and in the end he usually wins out. People were skeptical of "Titanic," and then it became the highest-grossing movie in history and won an Oscar. Nobody was going to be interested in "Avatar?" It replaced "Titanic" as the highest-grossing movie in history. People tried to dunk on Big Jim about his bold plans for "Avatar" sequels. They'll never get done, they scoffed, and if they do, they'll flop. "The Way of Water" made $2.32 billion, and if you are betting against 2025's "Fire and Ash," well, you aren't one to learn a lesson, we guess.

However, Cameron is not intending to spend the rest of his life crafting movies in the fictional world of Pandora. He announced on Facebook that he is going to adapt the best-selling novel "The Devils."

It's a pretty swift turnaround, as Joe Abercrombie's fantasy novel came out just last month. To be fair, Cameron did say, "I’ve loved Joe’s writing for years," but then added, "The freshness of the world and the characters in 'The Devils' finally got me off my butt to buy one of his books and partner with him to bring it to the screen."

Indeed, as the word "partner" indicates, Cameron will be adapting this film alongside Abercrombie. The story of "The Devils" involves a specialized group of monsters who hunt down flesh-eating elves in order to try and save Europe. We assume Cameron has some sort of technological idea in his head that he will want to implement. That's kind of his thing.

Cameron may be burning his candle at both ends a bit to get "The Devils" handled. He missed Disney's CinemaCon in April as he was finishing up "Fire and Ash." Oh, and another "Avatar" movie is slated for December 21, 2029. Maybe Cameron can squeeze "The Devils" in between those releases.
