Drew Starkey says the 'Outer Banks' cast is "very, very excited to get back" and start filming the final season

While at Netflix Tudum 2025: The Live Event, Drew Starkey reflected on his Outer Banks journey as he prepares to start filming the fifth and final season.

"We're all going to Charleston in about two weeks," he confirmed to Variety. "That'll kind of take us through the year, and we're all very, very excited to get back."

The actor continued to express, "That show changed all of our lives, mostly because we have a good community of people all around us, all the time. It's always been good to have that to go back to every year, it's like summer camp. It's been the best, so yeah, we're gonna hopefully finish strong."

Sadly, not all of our Pogues will be returning as season 4 ended with a heartbreaking character death as Rudy Pankow's JJ Maybank was murdered by his biological father. This leaves our Pogues (and Rafe) out for revenge.

"For sure, I'm gonna cry. I've shed a tear every season," he admitted. "You go through an experience, and you put yourself out there, and it's vulnerable, and you take chances, and it's a bit of trauma bonding with each other. Then, it ends, and it's kind of stripped away from you. It's an intense -- it's a dopamine drop. So yeah, it's a lot of feelings all at once toward the end."

The series first premiered back in 2020, with the fourth season premiering in two parts last year. Along with Starkey, who has been playing Rafe Cameron since the first season, Chase Stokes, Madelyn Cline, Madison Bailey, Jonathan Daviss, Carlacia Grant, and Austin North are all expected to return.

Creators Josh Pate, Jonas Pate, and Shannon Burke revealed to TUDUM that they already have the final frame of OBX in their minds: "We’ve always known from the beginning what the last scene would be," said Pate.

Outer Banks is streaming on Netflix.
