Giants GM Joe Schoen 'would consider' signing Odell Beckham Jr.

First-year general manager Joe Schoen seems open to a reunion between the New York Giants and free-agent wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. this fall.

"I had no idea he was in the building," Schoen said about Beckham after Tuesday's NFL trade deadline, as shared by Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk. "Obviously he’s a guy we would consider and talk to when he’s healthy."

Schoen was referencing how Beckham visited with friend Sterling Shepard and other members of the Giants in early October. It was later reported that OBJ "is open" to returning to the club that originally selected him in the first round of the 2014 NFL Draft.

Beckham earned three Pro Bowl nods during his tenure with the Giants which from 2014 through 2018. The Giants traded Beckham to the Browns ahead of the 2019 season. Most recently, the veteran spent the second half of the 2021 campaign and the subsequent playoffs with the Los Angeles Rams. Beckham is still recovering from the torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee he suffered during Super Bowl LVI in February.

Along with the Giants and Rams, Beckham has been linked in rumors with the Green Bay Packers, Kansas City Chiefs, Dallas Cowboys, San Francisco 49ers and Buffalo Bills. Florio noted Tuesday that "the prevailing thought in league circles continues to be that Beckham will end up in Buffalo when it’s all said and done" and also that it's unclear when he'll be able to face live defenses.

"Reports originating from Beckham’s camp have indicated that he’ll be ready to go in the middle of November. Multiple teams think he won’t be ready to play until the middle of December," Florio said.

The 6-2 Giants are in their bye week and next host the Houston Texans (1-5-1) on Nov. 13.
