It has been a long road for Lois Boisson. France's top female player last year before injury took her out of a wildcard at the French Open but she is now into the Quarter-Finals as her stunning run continues. Jessica Pegula, the World No.3 is out.
Boisson indeed was perhaps more known for the so-called Deodorant gate against Harriet Dart at Rouen where the Brit asked the umpire if she can ask her to put some deodorant on.
The Frenchwoman used it to hilarious means asking Dove for a sponsorship instead of being bitter about it with Dart in this case getting a lot of flack. She went on to win that game and finally took her spot in the French Open draw.
The draw opened up for her with Maria Sakkari and Karolina Muchova being the main seeds in this section. The Greek was dumped out by Elsa Jacquemot in the first round who Boisson vanquished last time out. While Alycia Parks took down Karolina Muchova.
But Boisson who saw off Mertens and Kalinina to get to this point before Jacquemot would've always had a sneak suspicion. Pegula while she was exceptional earlier in the season has had some shock results in the past few weeks.
This include Moyuka Uchijima in Madrid, Elise Mertens in Rome and Anna Kalinskaya in Rome. Now add Boisson to that list.
She is the lowest ranked woman to reach the Roland Garros Quarter-Finals in 40 years. After going ahead in the first set, Pegula took the upperhand breaking for 4-3 before making it 5-3 consolidating. She broke again to seal the opening set.
But a storm was about to hit. Boisson bided her team and broke back after being broken back in set two. She broke at 4-4 to go 5-4 up and served it out superbly. She wouldn't be denied in the decider. Boisson broke immediately and despite Pegula breaking back, a fraught last few games saw her hold on especially when serving for it as Pegula had multiple chances to break. This likely would've sent it to a match tie-break where it could've gone any which way.
Next is Mirra Andreeva in a tie that you have to favour the 18-year-old in but Boisson has got this far. Can she cause another storm?
