Bad times come to Maine in the HBO Max trailer for "IT: Welcome to Derry"
When you watched the "IT" movies, did you think to yourself, "Okay, but how did we get here and can I get some more Pennywise origin story?" Maybe not, but it's 2025 so of course that's happening. Not only that, but it's an HBO TV show. This fall, we're being welcomed to Derry, but it's not going to be a chill time. After all, it's "IT: Welcome to Derry."
"Welcome to Derry" is serving as a prequel to "IT" and "IT: Chapter 2." Also, one would then assume, a prequel to Stephen King's novel. Bill Skaarsgard is reprising his role as Pennywise from the films, and the show was developed, in part by Andy Muschietti, the director of those two movies.
While the story of "IT" begins with kids being terrified by a spooky clown man (whose really some weird monster something or other), and the image chosen for the trailer's thumbnail is a young individual having a bad time, the cast is primarily adults for "Welcome to Derry." James Remar is in the main cast!
All things considered, "Welcome to Derry" is something you are probably already in on or of no interest to you. Horror fans and King fans will be checking it out, one assumes. People who liked the movies may give it a shot, or they may think that a prequel TV series is not really what they are looking for. If you have been feeling on the fence, though, check out the trailer and see where you land.
