Carey Mulligan reportedly joining Greta Gerwig's "Narnia" movie

if you were just running through actors to cast in a "Chronicles of Narnia" adaptation, Carey Mulligan would probably be one of the first 10 names or so you came up with. Well, it would seem Greta Gerwig had the same idea. Gerwig's much-ballyhooed followup to "Barbie" is getting its cast together, and reportedly Mulligan is expected to join the cast.

Mulligan is a three-time Oscar nominee for roles in "An Education", "Promising Young Woman", and "Maestro". She has also played other, memorable parts  in "The Great Gatsby", "Drive", and "Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps."  She certainly brings some additional cache.

Gerwig's film, which she is writing and directing for the first time, is an adaptation of "The Magician's Nephew." It's the sixth book in the novel, but it does make sense as Gerwig's first "Narnia" movie. First, the story hasn't been adapted yet. Two "The Magician's Nephew" is actually a prequel to the rest of the series.

The cast already had plenty of juice before Mulligan was added into the mix. Daniel Craig and Meryl Streep have been announced as being in the cast. Emma Mackey has also been cast purportedly in the role of the White Witch. Mulligan, reportedly, is lined up to play the mother of Digory, one of the kids in the story.

Netflix has a ton of money, and Gerwig has a lot of buzz post-"Barbie," so it's not surprising to see big names signing up. Now, you know, the movie just has to be good and stuff.
