Naturally, when there's a spin-off of any kind, fans are eager to find out if original cast members will return, whether it's as a small cameo or in some sort of recurring role. Well, fans of The Office will be thrilled to learn that John Krasinski, who starred as Jim Halpert, is more than open to appearing in The Paper if the opportunity presents itself.
"Done! If they ask me, I’m in," he told EXTRA. "I'm excited to see what they do with it. It's such an amazing idea, and listen if Greg [Daniels] is behind it, we're all in."
According to Deadline, The Paper "reintroduces the documentary crew that immortalized Dunder Mifflin’s Scranton branch as they search for a new subject when they discover a historic Midwestern newspaper and the publisher trying to revive it."
His Fountain of Youth co-star Domhnall Gleeson is actually part of the spin-off's new cast. "You can't get a better actor than [Domhnall] to take on the mantle. He's so, so great. He's going to be so perfect for it, and we'll probably start doing watch parties again just to watch them," Krasinski continued to comment. Their film will premiere globally May 23 on Apple TV+.
Oscar Nuñez is confirmed to be reprising his role as Oscar Martinez, starring alongside Gleeson, Sabrina Impacciatore, Chelsea Frie, Melvin Gregg, Gbemisola Ikumelo, Alex Edelman, Ramona Young, and Tim Key.
Eric Rahill, Duane Shepard Sr., Allan Havey, Nate Jackson, Mo Welch, Nancy Lenehan, Molly Ephraim, and Tracy Letts will guest star.
Angela Kinsey and Jenna Fischer, who played Angela Martin and Pam Beesly, recently shared that they "stopped by the set" when invited by co-creator Greg Daniels. "We showed up, and not only was Oscar there, but our crew, so many of these wonderful people — cause the crew was our extended family, and we’re still really close with them. And that was really moving to see," Kinsey said.
The Office is currently streaming on Peacock.
