Harjes was diagnosed with cancer in the winter and passed away on May 27 at the Mount Sinai West Hospital in New York City. He was best known for playing Jack Dempsey on Boardwalk Empire and Pete Baylor on Manifest. He also had roles in Daredevil, Gotham, Orange is the New Blackand Blue Bloods. He also acted in various off-Broadway shows and indie films.

“An Artist of Great Conviction”

Harjes’ representative stated that “he was an artist of great conviction who never gave less than one hundred percent to any role he undertook,” adding, “As a person, he was generous, kind, understanding and devoted to his family and friends, a great horseback rider and had a way with all animals.”

Director Antonio DiFonzo had this to say on Facebook:

“Terribly sad news as we lost Devin Harjes, an amazing actor and friend. He was constantly striving to be better and put his heart and soul into everything he did! We will never forget you and your amazing part in The Boyz of Summer and our lives. Rest in peace, Lion Heart!”

His obituary stated that “His life began with the rhythm of hooves and the open plains — just three days after he was born, his father carried him and his sister on horseback.” His cat, Maude, must also be grieving him.

Who Did Devin Harjes Play in Daredevil?

Harjes played Oscar, one of the Kingpin’s minions, in the 2015 Daredevil show. He appeared in another superhero show, the acclaimed Gotham, as Clyde, a fence who would offer Selena Kyle goods. Harjes is survived by his parents, Randy and Rosanne Harjes, and his sister, Trish Harjes, along with various other family members. Had he lived longer, he might have been able to expand his talent to larger roles and spread his love of animals to more people. He will be missed by those close to him and by the entertainment community at large.
