With Tom Hiddleston confirmed to be in Avengers: Doomsday, everyone wants to know what he can say about what's next for Loki. However, as usual, he can't really give us many answers. After all, he is a trained professional at this, considering he joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe at 29 years old, appearing in a total of six movies and 12 episodes of television so far.
"I can exclusively tell you that I will be there," he joked on Jimmy Kimmel Live. "There was the big thing they released of all the names on the back of the chairs, I didn't know [about it]. I was like, 'Oh, I guess I'm in the movie.' In fairness, I did know I was in the movie, but I'm so used to not knowing [making air quotes] I'm in the movie. It was a relief. I had to wait a while, there were a few other chairs."
The last time we saw the character was back in the season 2 finale of Loki on Disney+, which came out in 2023. It was unclear to both fans and the actor himself if Loki would return to the MCU in the future.
"I just poured my heart into that show, and it's sort of like where I always wanted to get to and where I sometimes didn't dare to dream I would be allowed to get to," the actor expressed on Happy Sad Confused. "I played this guy for 16 years, what am I gonna do, just put him on the shelf, no, you can't come too? This is my guy. He's my companion, he's my other self. He's my ride or die, I love that guy."
He also revealed that he didn't know about Robert Downey Jr. returning to the franchise as the upcoming film's villain, aka Doctor Doom, "until the rest of the world knew," describing it as "remarkable" and "absolutely extraordinary."
"I think that was something that was completely under wraps until it wasn't," Hiddleston commented. "I texted Kevin Feige with just like, exclamation marks. Then I thought, I better qualify that, and I said, RDJ?!"
He then added, "Robert is synonymous with the MCU. He’s at the center of it, and I think it must be very thrilling to come back and play with some different colors."
The rest of the Avengers: Doomsday cast includes Chris Hemsworth, Vanessa Kirby, Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Letitia Wright, Paul Rudd, Wyatt Russell, Tenoch Huerta Mejia, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Simu Liu, Florence Pugh, Kelsey Grammer, Lewis Pullman, Danny Ramirez, Joseph Quinn, David Harbour, Winston Duke, Hannah John-Kamen, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Alan Cumming, Rebecca Romijn, James Marsden, Channing Tatum, and Pedro Pascal.
This will serve as an on-screen reunion between Loki and Thor after the former's tragic death in Avengers: Infinity War. Rest assured, the sun will shine again on them again on December 18, 2026.
Until then, you can see the actor in The Life of Chuck, which will be released in select cities this Friday and everywhere on June 13.
