Jon Hamm’s ‘Fletch’ reboot will start filming soon

 As displayed in the photo, Confess, Fletch will be the film adaptation of Gregory McDonald's 1976 novel by the same name. McDonald's Fletch novel series was originally adapted with 1985's Fletch starring Chevy Chase as the titular character. Chase reprised the role once more for the less regarded Fletch Lives in 1989.

Hamm was attached to a Fletch reboot last July as actor and producer, The Hollywood Reporter relayed. The Emmy-winning Mad Men star then spoke with THR about the project in August, revealing that he woke up "to, like, 50 texts" after the news had broken: "I got messages from friends on the St. Louis Cardinals and [hockey team] the Blues, from heads of studios. It was just such an outpouring of people saying, ‘Oh, I can’t wait.'"

Hamm elaborated further: 

"No one can touch Chevy’s portrayal of that character. ... “[The books are] all really funny. It was my first kind of lesson in how people adapt characters for the screen. The character in the book’s a lot different than Chevy’s portrayal, and so when Bill Block at Miramax came to me and said, ‘You know, we own this and we think you’d be a good fit,’ I agreed, but I don’t want to imitate Chevy. I’m not interested in that and I don’t think anybody else would be. We already have that version, so maybe there’s a way to get a version that’s more true to life for the book, more intellectual and a little more live in its sensibility."

The first two Fletch movies were directed by the late Michael Ritchie.

Mottola, to this point, is best known for his directorial credits on Arrested Development and Superbad.
