Drumeo is a YouTube channel about, well, drums. They have different drumming-related video series, including one you might call "For the First Time." In this series, a drummer hears a song for the first time and then is asked to play the drum part for the song upon hearing it for the first time. Usually, these are about drummers of a certain genre being asked to tackle something outside their usual drumming world. A jazz drummer hears a metal song, a metal drummer hears a pop song, and on and on. Those videos are for drummers and drumming enthusiasts.
Here's something for everybody, though: John Stamos playing "Last Resort" by Papa Roach.
You might remember Stamos as Uncle Jesse on "Full House." He's a TGIF icon. However, as the fact he has a proper drum set in his house indicates, he's no slouch on the drums. He's drummed quasi-professionally, including playing for "Full House" staples the Beach Boys. Yes, Stamos is an actor first, a drummer second, but he's no weekend warrior.
Meanwhile, you may remember Papa Roach as one of the bigger bands from the heyday of rap-rock/nu metal/whatever you want to call it. It was a genre of the moment best described as "actively unlistenable." However, time heals all wounds, by which we mean that the popular bad music of a bygone era becomes a charming quirk plucked from history. The idea of John Stamos playing along to "Last Resort" by Papa Roach is a true cultural curiosity.
Stamos may have been blessed to have never heard this song before being asked to drum along with it. How did it go? Watch and find out.
Oh, and if you are looking for another video from this series with a similar vibe, can we interest you in Billy Joel's drummer playing a Bob and Doug McKenzie song? Yes, the "SCTV" characters.
