The killer that won't die: "Dexter: Resurrection" teaser has dropped

In this modern age, the idiom "beating a dead horse" feels archaic, what with so few horses, living or dead, around to be beat. However, it feels apropos when discussing the neverending saga of America's top serial killing antihero. That would be Dexter Morgan. He's killed many, but the folks at Paramount just refuse to let him die. So much so, the latest Dexter show is literally subtitled "Resurrection," and the promotion has begun.

Okay, so that's the teaser-iest of teaser trailers possible, so much so we can describe it in full in a single sentence if you weren't inclined to click. A newspaper says Dexter Morgan is dead, but revealed reading said newspaper is a very much alive Dexter, who's happy about the whole thing. The key takeaway for viewers is simply that "Dexter: Resurrection" is debuting on July 11. Some trashy summer programming for the Paramount+ crowd.

"Dexter" ran on Showtime for eight seasons, ending on a note that many fans were not happy with. Thus, we got the "loljkjk" reboot limited series "Dexter: New Blood," a chance for the "Dexter" folks to try to end things again. However, that seemed to just open a door that needed to remain closed. There is an ongoing prequel series, "Dexter: Original Sin."

Now, Michael C. Hall is also going to be playing Dexter in a parallel series continuing the wacky adventures of the character. "Resurrection" picks up pretty much right after "New Blood," and once again a fine cast has been assembled. Somehow they are even managing to get John Lithgow making a guest appearance, even though his character is long dead.

Nevertheless, soon enough it will be July. It'll be too hot to go outside. Nothing will be on TV. You have Paramount+. You throw on "Dexter: Resurrection." It passes the time and is maybe enjoyable. This is modern summer replacement programming. A legacy continues.
