'Loki' gets a second season at Disney Plus
Loki's six-episode first season wrapped Wednesday (July 14) on Disney Plus, but not before confirming a second season is on the way.
The finale's mid-credits scene revealed that Disney Plus has renewed the Marvel scripted series, as relayed by The Hollywood Reporter.
THR also aptly pointed out that Loki is the first of Marvel's Disney Plus scripted original series to receive a formal renewal. WandaVision, a 23-time Emmy nominee as of Tuesday (July 13), and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier are the other two under that umbrella.
Nobody is more surprised that Tom Hiddleston will continue playing Loki than Hiddleston himself. The 40-year-old actor admitted on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Monday (July 12) that he "really did think it was the end" for his character after Avengers: Infinity War in 2018.
"There was a big round of applause on set and lots of, you know, loving notes from the studio saying, 'We love you, Tom, and come and see us anytime. You'll always be part of the family,'" Hiddleston told Fallon. "And I hung up my boots and said goodbye. ... That's the thing about Loki is—what do they say about Loki? He's like, 'I'm Loki, and when I die, I don't.'"
But fans won't have to wait until Loki's second season to see an animated version of Hiddleston's God of Mischief, as Disney Plus is set to premiere What If? on Aug. 11.
Loki, created and directed by Michael Waldron, also stars Owen Wilson, Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Sophia Di Martino.
