A new Star Wars film is set to focus on brave Rebel pilots and epic aerial battles.

The name of that film is Star Wars: Rogue Squadron, and after being shelved for years, it’s now back in development.

Patty Jenkins confirmed it during an interview with the Talking Pictures podcast. The Wonder Woman 1984 director revealed she’s currently writing the film’s first draft.

“When I left Star Wars to do Wonder Woman 3, and I started working on that, we talked about, ‘Well, maybe I’ll come back to Star Wars after Wonder Woman 3,’ so we started a deal for that to happen,” she said.

“When Wonder Woman 3 then went away, Lucasfilm and I were like ‘Oh, we’ve got to finish this deal.’ We finished the deal right as the strike was beginning, so I now owe a draft of Star Wars.”

The third Wonder Woman movie was axed after Wonder Woman 1984 generated just $169 million globally, as opposed to the first one’s $824 million haul. The drop off frees up Jenkins to work on her Star Wars project.

Star Wars: Rogue Squadron is loosely based on the popular video game series of the same name, the first of which launched for Nintendo 64 in 1998.

That game takes place primarily between Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope and Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, with players controlling Luke Skywalker in the cockpits of various Rebel craft as he fights the Galactic Empire both in space and in planets’ atmospheres.
