Chris Hemsworth will star in "Subversion", a submarine thriller from Amazon

"Subversion" comes to us from Amazon MGM, and Hemsworth does seem to be the main selling point, at least right now. No other cast has been announced, and with all due respect to screenwriter Andrew Ferguson and director Patrick Vollrath, neither of them are selling points to the general public. The dude who played Thor definitely is.

Apparently the elevator pitch on this movie is "'Die Hard' on a submarine," and it's heartening that the "'Die Hard' on/in a X" conception is still out there all these years later. Hemsworth plays a naval commander blackmailed into piloting a submarine containing illegal contraband across international waters. Sounds ridiculous. Could be a lot of fun.

Of course, there is a long history of submarine-set thrillers. It makes sense, given that submarines are kind of bananas conceptually. They are underwater traveling around! Plus, they are cramped confines, and usually involved in military activity. If "Subversion" can combine "Die Hard" with the sub thriller, that would be pretty enjoyable. Sure, there's no way it's as good as "Die Hard," and Hemsworth is no Bruce Willis, but there's an idea there that could be fun.
