Bronny James Catches NBA's Attention in Lakers-Warriors Game

Bronny James averaged just 2.3 points in 6.7 minutes per game as a rookie for the Los Angeles Lakers last season. The former USC Trojans guard kicked off his 2025-26 preseason with a forgettable performance, shooting just 1-of-12 for eight points in L.A.’s 103-81 blowout loss to the Phoenix Suns on Friday.

The Lakers were in action again on Sunday, and James came off the bench to log 23 minutes, as the Lakers fell to the Golden State Warriors, 111-103. The 6-foot-2 shooting guard registered five points on 2-of-6 from the field, along with three rebounds, three assists, a steal, one block and five turnovers in the loss.

James, however, had a highlight reel dunk in the fourth quarter — one that caught the attention of the NBA. The league took to social media to share a couple of replays of James soaring for an eye-catching putback jam.

“@bronny shows off the bounce! ,” the league posted on Instagram.

Lakers sophomore swingman Dalton Knecht missed a three-point attempt at the 4:13 mark of the final frame. This proved to be an opportunity for James to show off his athleticism by getting up for a one-handed putback slam.

James may not be the best player out there, but there’s no denying that plays like these go to show how much potential this young man has.

James, who will be turning 21 on Monday, failed to establish a significant role in head coach JJ Redick’s rotation last year. It remains to be seen if he’s done enough during the offseason to take on more responsibilities in his sophomore season.
