Jalen Hurts takes blame for Eagles' offensive struggles

Five weeks into the NFL season, there aren't undefeated teams anymore. The Philadelphia Eagles' offensive miscues were too big to overcome against Sean Payton and the Denver Broncos in Week 5. All things considered, this was far from a surprise.

New Eagles offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo was under heavy fire for his predictable play-calling, and the lack of involvement of WRs A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith also turned plenty of heads. However, it was QB Jalen Hurts who took a step forward and took full responsibility for the team's offensive miscues.

“Ultimately, I can take accountability for everything and take responsibility for it all," Hurts said after the game, per Pro Football Talk. "The lack of execution and maybe lack of sense of urgency in how our operation is. And so I take the responsibility for all of it because I’m just trying to find solutions for it. Just trying to grow and learn from it and I look at this as an opportunity in itself. You play the game to win and when you don’t, you learn from it.”

Hurts and the Eagles were up 17-3 before failing to get anything going in the fourth quarter. Ultimately, they lost 21-17. All in all, Hurts finished the game with 23 completions on 38 attempts for 280 yards and two touchdowns, adding a couple of carries for three yards.

Then again, while his numbers this season have been far from impressive and he clearly doesn't seem to be on the same page with his receivers, it seems like the team's offensive issues run way deeper than the players' execution.
