The BC Lions have one of the brightest futures in the CFL after hiring head coach Buck Pierce this offseason and restructuring quarterback Nathan Rourke's insanely expensive contract.
The Lions are now using the extra cap space acquired from restructuring the deal. They have extended one of the best CFL receivers from last season, who led the league in receiver yards.
Multiple sources have now reported that the Lions have extended Justin McInnis, the CFL receiving yards leader, on a two-year deal following a season in which he achieved career highs across the board.
“Justin has evolved into an elite game-breaker in this league, and we feel his ceiling can be even higher as we integrate our players into Buck Pierce’s offense,” said Lions general manager Ryan Rigmaiden.
McInnis played all 18 games in 2024, accumulating 92 receptions, 1469 yards and seven touchdowns, all career highs. These career-high statistics earned him both West Divison All-CFL and All-CFL honors.
The 28-year-old receiver played three seasons in Saskatchewan before signing with BC in 2023. His career totals include 57 games, 186 receptions, 2755 receptions and 14 touchdowns through five CFL seasons.
BC will surely hope the receiver repeats what he did last season for the club, and that will hopefully start when they face off against the Elks on June 7.
