Toronto Argonauts Make Final Decision on All-Star Returner

The Toronto Argonauts are doubling this off-season after winning the 2024 Grey Cup. In a recent trade with the BC Lions, the team brought in Canadian linebacker Ryder Varga to lead the defense, and they are slowly continuing to build the team.

The Argos' most recent move has seen them bring back arguably the best kick returner in the CFL currently, as All-CFL kick returner Janarion Grant has signed an extension with the team through at least the 2025 season.

Argos general Manager Michael “Pinball” Clemmons had some good things to say about the veteran returner, “Last year Janarion put the special in special teams.” Pinball said. “He’s not just effective, but exhilarating, increasing the blood flow in your veins. He is sure to lift Argo fans out of their seats once again. I look forward to his shy, unassuming smile and more to the point, him making you smile.”

Grant took home All-CFL honors last season following a standout season with Toronto. He played in 16 games during the 2024 season, returning the ball 67 times for 989 yards and three touchdowns.

His kick-off returns, however, were even more impressive as he took 41 returns for 1000 yards and one touchdown, with his longest being 103 yards. As mentioned, he capped all of this off with a Grey Cup championship.

He’s spent the last five seasons in the CFL, the four previous to last season with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Through the five, Grant has accumulated 241 punt returns, 128 kickoff returns, 3,245 punt return yards, 3,092 kick return yards, 10 punt return touchdowns, and two kick return touchdowns.

The 31-year-old will look to make a significant impact in the 2025 season as Toronto looks to repeat as Grey Cup champions. They will open their season on June 6 against the Montreal Alouettes.
