The Clemson baseball team kicks off its 2025 season on Friday against the Oklahoma State Cowboys. That matchup will take place in Arlington, TX as part of the Shriners Children’s College Showdown.

Head coach Erik Bakich will not be in attendance. He will, however, be heard on the radio airwaves during the season opener.

Bakich led the Tigers to a Super Regional last season, the program’s first since 2010. Unfortunately, he was tossed in a season-ending loss to Florida.

The ejection stemmed from a go-ahead home run by slugger Alden Mathes. The Clemson star spiked his bat while rounding the bases which led to a warning from umpires.

Bakich blew his top after the fact, confronting the crew before getting tossed. He then hyped up the home crowd on his exit from the diamond.

It was the second major incident in what was a testy extra-inning contest. The head coach was given a two-game suspension for his actions.

With the loss being his final game of the 2024 season, that punishment trickles into 2025. He’ll miss each of the Tigers’ first two games against Oklahoma State and Arizona.

Bakich won’t be in the dugout. Instead, he’ll be cooped up in his hotel room. To pass the time, he’s opted to join the radio broadcast while his team competes on the field.

Erik Bakich won’t be on the field. He will, however, be involved in the action. Clemson baseball fans can tune into the local broadcast to hear the coach during the season opener. First pitch is set for noon.
