Five Super Regional MLB Draft prospects who could be next Jac Caglianone

Following an inauspicious debut on Tuesday, Kansas City Royals prized prospect Jac Cagalinone recorded his first MLB hit and run batted in during Thursday's 6-5 extra innings loss to the St. Louis Cardinals.

This time last year, the 2023 Golden Spikes Award finalist led Florida to a second consecutive Super Regional win in the men's baseball NCAA Tournament.

Caglianone was one of the biggest stars during the past two College World Series. In four games at the 2024 CWS in Omaha, Caglianone hit .583 with two home runs and reached based in 14 of his 19 plate appearances (.736).

With the first pitch of the 2025 NCAA Tournament Super Regionals set for Friday afternoon, now's a good time to look at which players could be the next to make a meteoric rise.

Here are five batters to watch in this weekend's Super Regionals before the College World Series begins on June 13 and the 2025 MLB Draft takes place a month later from July 13-15.

Arkansas shortstop Wehiwa Aloy

It took Aloy a season to find his footing in the SEC after a sensational run in the WAC as a freshman at Sacramento State, but MLB.com's No. 22 overall prospect in the 2025 draft is in the midst of his best collegiate season with the Razorbacks.

Aloy has posted career-highs in home runs (20), runs batted in (64) and on-base percentage (.440). He blasted two home runs in Game 2 of the Fayetteville Regional, which Arkansas swept, outscoring its opponents 26-6.

Oregon State 2B Aiva Arquette

Arquette is the top position player prospect in the Super Regionals, ranking No. 6 overall. After originally being selected by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 18th round of the 2022 MLB Draft, Arquette instead elected to play collegiately at Washington before transferring to Oregon State this season.

He's slashing .352/.468/.670 with 18 home runs and 65 RBI for the Beavers and has reached base in 13 consecutive games dating back to May 5. During the decisive regional final win over USC, Arquette hit a two-run home run to give Oregon State a 3-0 lead.

Next: vs. Florida State (Friday, 6 p.m. EST • ESPN2)

Auburn outfielder Ike Irish

The luck of the Irish has been on Auburn's side this season with its outstanding junior outfielder. Irish is slashing .362/.464/.700 through 53 games, hitting 18 home runs with 36 strikeouts and 30 walks in 248 plate appearances.

The Tigers made it through their regional last weekend unscathed, and Irish played a key role, hitting 7-for-14 with two home runs in three games. Auburn averaged 9.3 runs per game.

Next: vs. Coastal Carolina (Friday, 9 p.m. EST • ESPN2)

Tennessee second baseman Gavin Kilen

Kilen has outstanding plate discipline, only striking out 62 times during his career, including 26 in 51 games this season after playing two years at Louisville. He's come up with some important hits this postseason, including a go-ahead three-run home run in extras against No. 1 seed Texas in the SEC tournament quarterfinals.

Next: at Arkansas (Saturday, 5 p.m. EST • ESPN)

North Carolina catcher Luke Stevenson

The only thing stronger than Stevenson's arm behind the plate might be his PB&J game.

Stevenson, the top sophomore in MLB.com's rankings, has 32 home runs over his two seasons at North Carolina. MLB.com notes that his power "could translate to 25 homers per season."

Next: vs. Arizona (Friday, 12 p.m. • ESPN2)
