TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Nate Oats and his staff added another major piece to Alabama's 2024 recruiting class, landing a commitment from 5-star Derrion Reid on Friday afternoon.

Alabama has been linked with Reid for quite some time, and beat out home-state school Georgia as well as Florida State for the elite forward.

The Grovetown, Georgia native is ranked as top-25 player in his class by all major recruiting services, and ranks as high as No. 9 overall by ESPN's recruiting rankings. He's the second 5-star to commit to Alabama in this cycle, joining Aiden Sherrell, Reid's teammate at Prolific Prep in California.

At 6-foot-7, Reid is a physical forward with tremendous athleticism and explosive leaping ability. He plays with tons of aggression and scores the ball well around the basket.

He's a versatile defender with a rangy build, and shoots the ball decently well from beyond the arc as his 3-point shot has continued to develop. He projects as a big wing in Oats' system that has all the tools to be a major two-way player.

Per 247Sports, Reid ranks as the No. 4 player to ever commit to the Crimson Tide, behind Collin Sexton, Brandon Miller and JD Davison. With Reid joining Sherrell and 4-star Naas Cunningham, both of whom have already signed their letters of intent, Alabama's class climbs to No. 8 nationally, per 247Sports' class rankings.

It's the second time in three years that Oats has brought in a top-10 recruiting class, following the 2023 class that brought in first round NBA Draft picks Brandon Miller and Noah Clowney.
